The Winter of The Witch Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars.

Truthfully, I haven’t loved this series like everyone seems too. I have struggled with seeing it in the “perfection” column, because I’m just not as invested I suppose. Don’t get me wrong, these books are wonderfully written. It’s almost like they have been written in a Russian ancient text and then translated; it makes for another great element. The magical scenes are gorgeous and Vasya as a main character is one to be admired. Normally, these types of stories would be a no brainer and would immediately find a place on my favorites shelf. I think it just all comes down to taste and had these books not taken such a dark and sinister tone maybe they would live up to my expectations.

But let’s not just focus on the few negatives I have and discuss more of what I consider to be such beautiful storytelling. Arden has created such breathtaking images. Especially in this final installment. I think what I loved most were the magical horses. Horses are beautiful in any story, but when you add them in a fairytale sense and surround them by a beautiful landscape; it makes for a wonderful reading experience. Imagination definitely takes flight and I loved getting swept away in those moments.

Another element I loved throughout the entire series was the theme of humanity and what it means to be “seen”. I think the frost demon was such an interesting character and a great way to show good verses evil.

Overall, this series has so many wonderful elements. It’s truly unlike anything else out there at the moment. What lacks in my ratings again only accounts for taste otherwise these would be perfection.
