What if all the water ran out?
This concept is absolutely frightening and seemed all too real while reading. Shusterman is the master of taking a situation that could happen one day and turn it into a reality. This is written with his son as well and they make a great duo. In the same vein as Stephen King, the authors show gradually the need of water and then the scary crossover into being desperate.
I did find the first half a little more engaging than the last half, but overall I thought this was a fascinating read. I honestly didn’t really like any of the characters, which is funny considering my overall rating is fairly high for that. The plot was just so convincing that not liking them didn’t really affect me this time.
If you are a Shusterman fan and haven’t read this one yet, I would say give it a try! It’s a great one to discuss with a group and really makes you think about how you would react in this situation and maybe not take for granted what we have the luxury of having everyday.
